CONGRATS AND THANKS FOR PLAYING ALONG.

HAPPY READING!!

****

*the publisher asked me to keep the giveaway live until July 15th, so lots of time to find lots of ways to enter!

I read more in the summer than any other time of year…so I need help with a new reading list that will carry me through four weeks of my daughter is at overnight camp and into Fall.

So…please leave a suggestion in the comments.

And for giving me your sage advice on books, I’ll offer you some.  Not advice — BOOKS.

One entry per comment.  And you know the giveaway drill — if you Tweet it or Whatever It, come back and leave another comment and you double or triple your chances of winning.

One Grand Prize winner — chosen at random on Wednesday, July 15th — will receive a set of five of Jane Porter’s books including: Easy on the Eyes (reviewed here by yours truly), Mrs. Perfect, Odd Mom Out, Flirting with Forty AND The Frog Prince.

Five additional winners will each receive one of these books.

That’s SIX winners! I’ll post the names here, so be sure to check back!

And while I am against the whole Promo-Mom thing, I’m totally in favor of giving away books. I have not received anything from the publisher other than my ARC of Easy on the Eyes — and I did not accept that with any conditions to recommend it — that happened because I enjoyed the book. Then the cool folks at Hachette thought if I liked the book — you might too.

I agreed!

My Lovely Life by Vicki Foreman. She’s a fellow blogger. It is the story of her life following the birth of her micropreemie twins. I’ve just started it and it is riveting.

Slade and Kally by Anne Rought (Samhain Publishing)

A beautiful story that reaches far beyond the norm. Kally escapes the hands of her abusive husband to accidentally find solace in Slade’s Third Moon Ranch when she crashes her car into a snow bank.

I fell in love with Slade, his ranch and his family/friends.

Pacing is excellent too, and offers a face paced, satisfying ending.

Adding linky love to your contest on tomorrow’s Wednesday Writings post.

A Prayer for Owen Meany is a good read, and our own bloggy world friend Karen Harrington’s Janeology. (Will be reviewing it soon, maybe tomorrow.)

I’d recommend The Book Thief. Perhaps not considered a beach-read, but in my opinion a good-read nonetheless. The narrator is an unlikely character. Oh, and I don’t need any of your giveaways…just the two books that have been driving around with you will be fine!

I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife. I know it’s not a new release, but the movie is coming out later this summer. I hope the movie does it justice. The story is hard to explain, as I was skeptical when a friend recommend it to me. However, even my sister (who’s a bit discriminating than I) loved it!

If you are looking for an easy read, and can deal with the chick-lit genre, my recommendation is PS, I love you, if you havent read it already. This book had me up all night reading and I balled my eyes out. Cried like a three year old whose candy was taken away. I havent seen the movie yet.

Or if you want to educate yourself, Long Way Gone : Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. Obviously not an upbeat, uplifting story, but a good story. A sad-i-cannot-believe-i-live-a-sheltered-life and oh-my-lord-there-are-truly-bad-things-happening-to-kids story. When I was done, I was even more passionate about helping those who are not as fortunate as I am.

I am currently reading A Thousand Splendid Summers. I like the author, engaging writer.

If you want summer fluffiness, read anything by Sophie Kinsella. She wrote the Shopaholic series and they made me laugh so hard I almost peed my pants. It is rare that a book can mix fluffiness and humor so well. Yay for British lit!

If you like suspense novels, I have really gotten into Matthew Reilly’s military books. They really keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing.

If you’re looking for some self-help (not that you need it - just like to share this book), Boundaries by Townsend and Cloud is by far the best self-help book I have ever read to try to help myself say No!

Finally, I highly recommend the series by Julia Spencer-Fleming about a former military pilot-turned-Episcopal priest and her adventures in llife and love in a small town. They are mysteries and very well-written, engaging and thought-provoking.

    Hope those suggestions are helpful!!

The Help is a must read…unforgettable
The Space Between Us is a similiar story to The Help but takes place in India
    American Wife
    Admission
And anything by Pat Conroy; I can’t wait for his new book in August!
    Happy Reading!

Definitely read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society if you can. It’s everything a fun but poignant summer read should be: smart, witty and funny at times, a page-turner, romantic, thoughtful, with a dash of British WWII history thrown in. Loved it! I hear from a book-lover friend that another great page-turner is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It’s a mystery set in Sweden and everyone says it’s riveting. That will keep you cool on a hot summer day.

the beginning of my summer reading is always dominated by titles I need to read because I assigned them as summer reading for my students! So, here are two you might find interesting:
Three Cups of Tea (nonfiction) about a man who fails a mountain climb but finds a true purpose for his life
Water for Elephants (fiction) descriptive story of life in the circus.

Best books I’ve read in the last few months? The Gargoyle (incredible), The Book Thief, and Tender Graces. You can’t go wrong with any of the three.

Would love a new book, would love to be able to read it on the beach :)

Have you read DEEP DISH by Mary Kay Andrews? I thought it was quite fun. It’s the only book of hers I’ve read so far, but next up is THE FIXER UPPER, which is getting great reviews. I’d be thrilled to win something by Jane Porter — thanks for the chance!

My top choice would be The Time Travelers Wife, followed by Memoirs of a Geisha. Those are 2 older books and if you haven’t read either of them yet, they are wonderful!

Undomesticated Goddess is a fun chick-lit choice!

Knight of Desire is a historical romance that I just loved!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society was good too!
